Widows are women whose husbands have died, and orphans are children whose parents, for whatever reason, are not in the child’s life.
Many families have lost loved ones due to AIDS, malaria and other diseases, widows are often the most vulnerable in society. So many women are forced to raise their children with no financial support, fetch water, work in the streets, and farm their land for food all alone with no support system. SSPI selects the most vulnerable widows and their children in the community and assist them in becoming self-sufficient by offering counseling, basic needs, spiritual guidance, and assistance to their children.
Our program is designed to provide food, mattresses, bedsheets, blankets, and mosquito nets for the widows and their children, and single-parent families in need.
Many poor families in Uganda have no beds, they sleep on the floor in rugs, with no beddings to use for a good night sleep. Many people especially the vulnerable widows & their children become infected with malaria. Malaria is the single biggest killer for children in Africa. Over 300,000 children die from malaria every year, young children are especially vulnerable as their immune systems are still developing. Our goal is to reduce malaria deaths among the poor families as malaria is both preventable and curable. SSPI is working to provide mattresses, bedsheets, blankets and mosquito nets to these vulnerable families.
Supporting our vulnerable families in Uganda will help ensure that they have food and a comfortable sleep at night. Items are purchased locally in Kampala, Uganda and distributed among the families.
$98 will provide a mattress, blanket, bedsheets & a mosquito net.
