Why Us?

Why Support Us?

These families are part of our communities, there is a need to support them to make a difference in our communities which would lead to a reduction in poverty, less violence and to promote a society with children who grow up to be responsible and be productive in our communities.

Facts About Single-Parent Families

  • 1 in 3 single mothers live in poverty
  • 10 times more likely to use drugs
  • 10 times more likely to drop out of high school
  • 5 times more likely to commit suicide
  • Twice as more likely to be abused
  • 32 times more likely to run away from home
  • 78% of current US prison population
  • 71% of all high school dropouts come from single-parent families
  • Children are almost 5 times more likely to develop emotional problems
  • Of single mothers under 30, only 7% have finished college nationwide.
  • Single-parent families face so many challenges which undoubtedly affect the children.

It really does take a village to raise kids, and the number of single-parent homes in the U.S. has almost doubled in the past 50 years (Anderson, 2013).  There were 12 million single parent families in 2016 in USA according to U.S. Census Bureau, 80% headed by single mothers. 1 in 4 children under 18 years of age (totaling about 17.2 million) are raised without a father. 45% of these families are living below poverty line with median income of $26000.

There are all sorts of single parent families, headed by fathers, mothers and grandparents raising their grandchildren. Some of these families form when one parent dies, a single parent adopting children, unwanted pregnancies through rape, parents divorcing or separating or abandoning their families.

As a founder of this organization, I have experienced first-hand & understand the challenges of single parents, but with the help of so many people, I was supported to go back to college & with the knowledge & skills I acquired, it motivated me to start this movement to support single parents through inspiring, educating, empowering, providing helpful resourses, practically assist & equip single parent families to live better productive & sucessful lives.

Society sometimes frames single parents as a social problem and are viewed as being poor-decision makers, lazy, welfare-grabbing baby-makers and blamed for their being in poverty, but sometimes this is not true. Most of these families form not by choice, but because of different circumstances and I believe they all desire the best for their loved ones. There are some single parents who have been successful as sole caregivers, but there are many who face so many challenges and deserve to be supported, encouraged, and advocated for, to live better successful lives.

Your support and generous contributions will enable us to meet our organization’s goals, and also make a difference in our community!
