“Not a luxury, but a necessity” - PERIOD!
Image the anguish of a homeless woman or teenager or mother, who needs these items & can’t get them! Women cannot use public benefits to buy hygiene products. These essential products are taxed and not included in flexible or health spending account allowances. They are not covered by the health insurance or Medicaid. And despite being a necessity for half the population, they are not offered for free in public restrooms.
SSPI helps girls, women in need, and homeless women with feminine hygiene products and under-wears.
Period Poverty is a widespread issue. It doesn’t just affect homeless women; it affects a huge number of schoolchildren, college students and so many women in need as well. 1 in 5 girls miss school due to a lack of feminine hygiene products. Period poverty is important, yet often ignored health crisis. Many girls as young as elementary years old are forced to miss school or activities because they are without any basic sanitary products. Menstruation periods are part of a woman's life & feminine hygiene products are a necessity not a luxury! Many women cannot move around freely, they miss job interviews, don’t attend important activities or events.
Period poverty prevents low-income menstruators from bleeding with dignity! SSPI has vowed to leave no girl or woman behind! We want to ensure that no girl-child misses school or activities because of monthly menstruation periods and no hygiene products. Our mission is to support girls and women to regain self-confidence and dignity by helping them to be clean and
healthy.
SSPI collects hygiene products to help girls & women in need. Every woman or teenager deserves to be comfortable!
